Do you know ... the winner of The Veuve Clicquot Award Australia 2007?
WHAT?
The Veuve Clicquot Award is global award, presented in 17 countries, including Australia.
The Veuve Clicquot Award was launched in France in 1972 to commemorate Madame Clicquot and to honour women who exemplify her vision and extraordinary qualities.
WHO?
Madame Clicquot was widowed in 1805, aged 27 and a mother of one. She defied the tradition of the day and took up the reins of her husband’s business, building it to the international champagne House we know today, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. For six decades she inspired, innovated and remained true to her vision, her character and the integrity of her product. She became known as ‘la grande dame de la Champagne’, defying anyone who said ‘you can’t’ and every obstacle that threatened, including the Napoleonic trade blockade. La Veuve (the widow) died aged 89, leaving an extraordinary legacy that stretched well beyond the boundaries of her 286 hectares of prime Champagne vineyards. Madame Clicquot invented the ‘table de remuage’ – intrinsic to the riddling process that leaves champagne so brilliantly clear, subsequently adopted by all other champagne houses and still used today. Her motto was ‘only one quality, the finest’ and she fiercely protected the reputation of her champagne, patenting the distinctive star and anchor logo and thwarting would-be counterfeiters. She remains an inspiration to businesswomen around the world.
The winner of The Veuve Clicquot Award Australia 2007 will be the woman judged to best exemplify the qualities of Madame Clicquot. She will be a woman who displays entrepreneurial drive; leadership skills; an ability to motivate and inspire others; to meet challenges, take risks and overcome obstacles to achieve success; with experience in managing a profitable company or organisation that has shown consistent financial success; a woman with charisma, individuality, style and tenacity.
The Judging Panel comprises The Honourable Justice Annabelle Bennett, AO; Director of Corporate Relations and Events for PBL Media Deeta Colvin; Chairman of Heytesbury Pty Ltd and previous winner of The Veuve Clicquot Award, Janet Holmes à Court; Chairman, Future Fund Board of Guardians David Murray; Director, Paspaley Pearls Group, Marilynne Paspaley; Managing Director, Moet Hennessy Australia Pty Ltd, Robert Remnant and business executive Dawn Robertson.
The Veuve Clicquot Award recipients around the world include Anita Roddick OBE, founder of The Body Shop, and Marisa Lisi Melpignano, of the Masseria San Domenico, now part of ‘The Leading Hotels of the World’. The Veuve Clicquot Award was relaunched in Australia two years ago. Wendy Erhart, co-founder of Withcott Seedlings, was honoured in 2005 and Sarina Bratton, founder of Orion Expedition Cruises, was this year’s recipient.
